Dear Beautiful Readers,
On May 23, 2007, Gabriel laid on the kitchen floor in excruciating pain. He was in the tissue expansion process. Three months of injecting his tissue expanders or balloons. Stretching his skin to make more skin. Cutting away areas of Giant Pigmented Nevus. New skin scattered with smaller nevi called satellites. However, reducing the melanocytic load, the risk of melanoma… the hopes of a well-adjusted son.
As Gabriel laid on the floor, he said, “I love God with all my heart, all my soul, all my mind. And as much as I love God, I want a brother and a sister.”
The phone rang.
My friend, Dana, delighted in offering good news. “I found your baby.”
Three weeks later, Lucas was born. Five hundred families were interested in this baby. She picked us… yes, three weeks before delivery. Out of nowhere… out of everywhere.
Gabriel became a big brother. When Lucas came home from the hospital, Gabriel eagerly came home from school. He gently touched Lucas and said, “I have so much love in my heart for you.”
So much love… through the eyes of a child… through the eyes of the divine.
God does answer prayer. He answered my prayer of wanting to adopt. He answered Pierre’s prayer of putting that same desire in his heart and knowing the timing when to move forward. He answered a child’s prayer.
Sometimes, we pray and don’t see it manifest. But it does manifest in some way. If we would open our eyes to see anew and ears to hear the faintest whisper, the opportunities are all around us. Beckoning us to see the extraordinary in the ordinary moments of life.
