Do you have courage? Or do you shrink when something frightens you? Maybe you give up and don’t pursue your dreams.
Courage is the ability to do something that frightens you. Courage has many faces. Courage can be the teacher that protected the students in the Florida shooting. It can be the whistle-blower in a tobacco litigation. It can be a student that stands up to a bully. Or a mom who stays up with her special needs child. It can be the firefighters who showed up on Ground Zero after the 911 attacks.
Mark Twain once said, “Courage is resistance to fear, mastery of fear, not the absence of fear.”
Here are some practices that have helped me to live a courageous life.
Courage involves taking risks. If you are afraid, you freeze in a pattern of uncertainty. If you value certainty more than uncertainty, you’ll be even more afraid to take risks. Courage involves uncertainty, unpredictability, and possibilities.
Change your belief around failure. Failure is a belief that you did something wrong and you are guilty. So, change your mindset around the word failure. Failure is really growth. You were growing and learning. You now gained valuable wisdom. You know what not to do and what to do.
We all have fears. Fear is false evidence appearing real. It’s a limitation. When you realize that you have the power to change, you can remove that block of fear. Because it is a block to everything you want.
Purse your dreams. Walt Disney said, “All of our dreams can come true if we have the courage to pursue them.” Dream big like Walt Disney. When you feel like giving up, may you think of Walt Disney and all he accomplished. And it began with the courage.
I encourage you not to give up on your dreams. Many times, you don’t see them manifest. It takes too much effort. Silence that inner critic and the voice of doubt. Go for it.
I would love to hear from you. Are you living courageously? Are you taking risks and mastering fear? What are some dreams you would like to pursue? Please share in the comments below.
