TAP AWAY DREAM BABY ~ EMOTIONAL FREEDOM TECHNIQUE

Dear Emotional Readers,

How do you release stress? Maybe read a book, go for a jog, eat some yummy food, have a drink. Well, there is another tool to put in your tool box. It’s called EFT or emotional freedom technique. This tapping technique combines ancient Chinese acupressure and modern psychology. Basically, we have meridians (channel pathways where life enery flows) that run through our bodies. This technique opens the meridians. Unwraps the tight fascia, a type of connective tissue webbing where we store our emotions. Gets the chakras up and rocking.

Now, if this sounds a little strange to you, how about some scientific evidence? Let’s get analytical and use our left-hemisphere of the brain. Tapping addresses the amygdala and lowers cortisol levels (stress hormones.)

Amygdala is a part of the brain situated right above the hypothalamus. This structure is almond shape and approximately one inch in length. Amygdala is a part of our limbic system. The primary role of amygdala is connected to emotions and memory. BAM. BAM. BAM.

You heard of the fight or flight response. It’s known as the acute stress response. It’s greatly activated when the tiger chases you. In that situation, we run and get the hell out of the way. But those same stress mechanisms are being triggered daily. And guess what? The tiger is not on our ass.

I know because I’ve experienced the fight or flight situations. It’s great for catastrophic events, i.e. Hurricane Katrina, son born with a rare medical condition. However, the catastrophic events play out daily in ordinary moments… when the boys fight, when my credit card gets declined, when the default notice appears in the mail, when I’m late for an appointment.

The Emotional Freedom Technique calms you, evens you, and centers you. It lowers cortisol rates and gets you back in alignment. You focus on a specific issue while tapping on end points of the body’s energy meridians. You can work on physical pain, emotional pain, psychological pain, etc.

Life doesn’t have to be stressful. We don’t have to be in that fight or flight state.
